Prepairing legs for my class I developed a technique to make legs That you may be interested in. Ones that are strudy and easily made to fit pewter feet. As you can see in the picture they are made from regular electrical copper wire. Cut to length, bend to shape, hold together with a rubber band inforced close pin. The solder will not stick to wood. Using a hand held solder iron, I flowed the solder to fill in the gap. Do not over do it, because you want the wire to make up the leg bones. Add a ball of Kullis Karvet, flatten it out to make the joint, texture and you are ready to paint. I used Orange Blast cleaner to get the greese flux off, just soak for an hour or so, brush and rinse. When you attach to the foot press a little Kulis to join the foot to the leg after you use 5 minute epoxy to join the two together, textrue the joint and you are done. This years class has several elements to get started on so the student can finish up the full project in 5 days.
A Dragon fly (10 of these) and if someone wants to do a bee, that too. 20 bird legs ready for Kulis application to finish them up ready to attach feet. So much time needed to soulder the wires together and attachment wire on the dragonfly, that I did it to that level. 10 notebooks and related material. 3 layout go-bys to various level. One just with lines, 2nd one with lines and some detail and last one ready to paint. I made 15 roughouts each taking 4 hours each. Should be a good class though, I will enjoy the final teaching, makes all the prep worth while. If you are in the neighborhood, drop in. Here is a new site I found with some very interesting woodburnings.
