Here is an excellent clay sculpting site. You can see David Lemon's videos and see his process on building up his sculptures. If you explore his previous posts you can see how the casting process is done and also how he colors his sculptures including the process of adding patina. I found it very interesting the lengthy process of making a finished bronze piece. One can now understand the cost better.

I am always looking for documentation on specific wildflowers to include in my bird sculptures. Here is an excellent site to do some research.
http://www.wildflower.org/gallery/species.php?id_plant=LISU Established by Lady Bird Johnson. Always difficult to figure how to carve a flower that looks like the original ones. Several are real challenges. But rather than just put a flower with a bird, it is nice to match up ones that are growing in the same habitat as the bird. Here are a couple of real challenges. Now to figure out how to make them. Finishing up some older carvings and doing the final painting. This is the design we will use in the class. I have 8 rough outs ready for the students. As you can see I use acrylic paint, apply in several thin washes. The hair dryer helps speed up the drying, but best it sets the paint so future washes will not lift the paint.
