This is like making dirt. I use sand from about any place, playground sand from Lowes works well. Be sure you start dry, sift out the large pebbles ( save these later for accents) . Using a tea spoon and place it just like you want it to look. Now mist with water till it looks wet (this may take a couple of tries to get it just right) be careful not to over wet. Now using an eye dropper, drop a few drops of 50/50 Elmers glue/water mix on the mix and let soak in. Continue till the glue mix almost runs out of the sand mix. Allow to dry over night. Not satisfied with look, you can add more on top and follow the original directions. At this point I place pebbles and sift a little more sand, moisten, drop glue mix and allow to dry overnight. This process works with beach sand too. If you want bird footprints you can do this in the moist phase just after dropping glue mix. (see photo) After it is dry brush excess off with paint brush.
